Jose Mourinho bemoaned his side’s failure to kill the game after Chelsea were held to a draw at West Bromwich Albion.

The Blues looked to be heading four points clear at the top of the Premier League table when Branislav Ivanovic swept home on the stroke of half-time.

We didn’t kill the game when we had the chance

But Victor Anichebe netted a dramatic 87th-minute equaliser to earn a draw for the Baggies at The Hawthorns.

“I was feeling it. I was feeling that the only thing we could do is defend well,” said Mourinho.

“We were not strong enough to get out in the last 10 minutes. The game doesn’t end until the last whistle and the defensive mistake led to the goal.”

“We were comfortable in the game, maybe too comfortable. We didn’t kill the game when we had the chance.

“In the last 20 minutes they put us under pressure and they scored a goal as a consequence. Maybe they deserved that point. A point is a point and at the end of the season we will see.

“I think the game for 60 minutes was completely in our hands, West Brom didn’t put one foot in our box. We couldn’t kill the game.”

Arsenal can move back to the top of the Premier League if they beat Manchester United at The Emirates on Wednesday night.

And Mourinho added: “In this moment we have one more point than before. If Arsenal and City win tomorrow they go above us but that is their job. Every game is difficult and every team needs points.”
