Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal’s performances haven’t been as bad as the media have made out this season.

The Gunners recovered from a 1-0 deficit at half-time to secure a credible point against title-chasing Manchester City at The Emirates on Saturday.

I think the team has been remarkably consistent

But the north London side have conceded 17 goals in humiliating losses at City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the current Premier League campaign.

However, Wenger pointed to Arsenal’s performances in the FA Cup as the Gunners manager hit back at the media’s disparaging assessment of his side.

“We have had some good performances this year,” Wenger said.

“Of course, if you read the newspapers, you can’t believe that.

“We are in the semi-final of the FA Cup, we knocked out Tottenham, Liverpool, Everton.

“We lost against Bayern with 10 men but drew 1-1 over there. You don’t do that if you’re terrible.’

Wenger added: “I think the team has been remarkably consistent. We went through a nightmare last week (at Chelsea).

“You could see in the 2-2 draw with Swansea (on Tuesday) that the team was on the floor and hugely disappointed because we scored an own goal in the last minute.

“But despite that we responded very well (against City).

“We will fight until the end (of the season). This team has quality on the pitch and in attitude as well.”
