Thierry Henry has claimed that Arsenal’s club-record signing Mesut Ozil is feeling the pressure of his £42.5m transfer fee.

The Germany international has come under increasing pressure in recent months after suffering a dip in form as Arsenal were eliminated from the Champions League.

Ozil made a promising start to his Arsenal career after scoring three goals and making five assists in his opening 11 games following his move from Real Madrid.

And Henry, who famously struggled after his switch from Juventus to Arsenal in 1999 before becoming a Gunners legend, defended the 25-year-old’s recent performances.

“They don’t actually remember that the guy coming has to adjust to a new style of living, talking a new language, different food, different town, different team,” Henry told BBC World.

“What I will say is people are focused on the main thing that I see he did change – that is the money. When a player has a price tag, he has to perform right away.”

Earlier this week, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who signed a new Gunners deal on Tuesday, claimed Ozil had settled “really well” at Arsenal.

“He has a few assists and a few goals, so he’s settled in really well,” Ramsey told Uefa’s website.

“It’s not always easy moving to the Premier League, with the pace [of] the game over here.

“He’s a really grounded guy and one who wants to help the team, so that’s helped him in his progression so far.”
