Arsenal have all but signed Nuremberg striker Josip Drmic, according to Germany football legend Lothar Matthaus.

The Gunners have been linked with a swoop for the 21-year-old forward in recent days as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his strikeforce.

Now, Matthaus has claimed that Drmic, who has scored 15 goals in 26 appearances for the Bundesliga side this term, is close to a move to north London.

“Arsenal are believed to be interested in Drmic,” Matthaus told Sky Germany. “I know for a fact that his wife is looking for a flat in London.

“I assume that Drmic will finish the season with Nurnberg hopefully successful and Nurnberg will sell him afterwards with a good profit – in this case to Arsenal.”

But the player himself insisted that there was no truth in the rumours that he has been house-hunting in the capital.

“At the moment, I’m single,” said Matthaus. “There is no one house-hunting in London. What will happen in the future, I don’t know. Any boy dreams about playing for Arsenal.”

Drmic scored in Nuremburg’s 3-2 defeat by Freiburg on Saturday.
