Arsenal’s Lukas Podolski ready for ‘special fight’ at Tottenham
Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski is relishing the challenge of facing north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday
Lukas Podolski says he is ready for Arsenal’s “special fight” against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The Germany international is no stranger to intense derbies, having featured in local clashes during spells with Bayern Munich and Cologne in the Bundesliga.
This is important for us. We must fight for the club, for the fans and I think this is an important game so I look forward to Sunday now
The 28-year-old scored in the Gunners’s memorable 5-2 trouncing of Tottenham at Emirates Stadium during his first season at the club.
And Podolski is looking forward to collecting a valuable three points in the Premier League title race, with Arsenal seven points behind leaders Chelsea.
“I’ve always liked derbies,” Podolski told Arsenal’s website.
“When I played in Munich, or Cologne or even here in Arsenal I always liked derbies because there’s a special atmosphere and it’s a special fight.
“We want to go there, get the three points and drive back home.
“This is important for us. We must fight for the club, for the fans and I think this is an important game so I look forward to Sunday now.”
The former Bayern man posted a picture of himself ahead of the north London derby on Instagram on Thursday.
“The way to the top leads across the White Heart Lane [sic],” Podolski said.
