Ryan Giggs admits that Bayern Munich are clear the favourites heading into their Champions League quarter-final first leg against Manchester United.

The Red Devils take on the holders and Bundesliga champions at Old Trafford on Tuesday before the return leg in Germany next week.

And despite conceding that Pep Guardiola’s side are the favourites to make it through to the last four, Giggs is relishing what he expects to be a “fantastic” occasion.

“When we play in the Champions League it’s always a great occasion, whether it’s the final or the quarter-finals,” Giggs said.

“Bayern are a fantastic team, they’re the holders. Pep [Guardiola] has taken over and added a few players and they’re a very strong team. They are favourites in most people’s eyes.”

Man Utd v Bayern Munich: Pre-match facts

• Bayern Munich are 33 games unbeaten away from home in the Bundesliga (W27 D4).
