Brendan Rodgers declared that he was proud of Liverpool’s attacking performance after the Reds edged a nine-goal thriller at Cardiff City.

The Bluebirds twice took the lead in the first half through Jordon Mutch and Fraizer Campbell but Luis Suarez and Martin Skrtel ensured the Reds finished the first half level.

Liverpool started the second half brightly and Skrtel scored his second goal of the game from a corner before Uruguayan Suarez gave the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Daniel Sturridge netted Liverpool’s fifth as the current Reds side broke the club’s record goal tally for a Premier League season before Suarez completed his hat-trick in injury time following Mutch’s late consolation.

“I am really, really proud of the team, and that is four games away from home that we’ve won on the spin and I can only be delighted with the performance and now we look to the next game,” Rodgers told Sky Sports.

He added: “”We showed a number of qualities. I thought the quality of our goals was very good, we showed our composure and our focus, especially when we went behind.

“We went behind twice in the game and we didn’t panic, and in the second half we showed great composure on the ball to create chances.

“We scored six goals again and we showed that offensive power in our attacking game.”

Liverpool ended a run of two successive clean sheets following the 6-3 win but Rodgers refused to criticise his side’s defending.

“That is the way it goes sometimes. The best teams will concede goals,” Rodgers added.

“We were probably too deep in the first half and the pitch was stretched too much, which gave them too much space.

“But I think anybody watching Liverpool today would see the real attacking threat we have. We were wonderful with the ball at times.”
