Carl Froch and George Groves prove themselves as heavyweights in the popularity stakes ahead of their Wembley rematch
Carl Froch and George Groves have proven themselves as heavyweights in the popularity stakes, with ticket demand for their rematch at Wembley on May 31 generating extraordinary demand.
Data from viagogo, the world’s largest ticket marketplace, revealed ticket demand for the British grudge match has soared an almost unparalleled 347 per cent since they went on sale on Monday.
The fight instantly became the most popular sports event on viagogo, even outstripping searches for the remaining Six Nations matches by three to one.
“The demand for this fight proves that there is a huge appetite for boxing in Britain and will further contribute to the hype surrounding what is surely set to be an explosive encounter,” said a viagogo spokesperson.
He’s struggling to hold it together right now and I don’t blame him
“You have to go back a long way to see a fight in the UK fought in front of so many fans, so it’s set to be an unmissable event for fight fans.”
Froch sparked controversy on Monday after he shoved Groves at the Wembley press conference on Monday.
And Groves said: “He’s just shown that he’s unprofessional because he just pushed me when we tried to do a head-to-head.
“He’s struggling to hold it together right now and I don’t blame him. I understand why. He’s in a fight that he can’t possibly win.”
