De Gea, Neville and more: Twitter reacts as Man Utd beat Aston Villa

David De Gea and Phil Neville both tweet their thoughts as Manchester United come from behind to beat Aston Villa 4-1

Manchester United put a derby defeat and fan unrest behind them with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United fell behind to Ashley Westwood’s free-kick after some fans booed as a plane carrying an anti-David Moyes banner flew over Old Trafford in the second minute of the match.

But Wayne Rooney soon headed United level and scored a penalty to make it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time, before Juan Mata and Javier Hernandez added gloss to the scoreline after the break.

Saturday’s early kick-off prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – and here are our favourite updates, in chronological order.

England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is not impressed by the fan protest as the game gets under way: “I must say, I think the Moyes banner exercise lacks class, and is unbefitting of a club of Manchester United’s stature.”

Ex-Villa midfielder Ian Taylor (@IanTaylor7) seems happy as the visitors take the lead: “Westwoooooooooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

But former Liveprool man Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) doesn’t think their lead will last: “United will still win. We’re never good up there.(trying desperately to use reverse psychology).”

After the final whistle, former Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) gives his post-match verdict: “Good result for united. Mata was my man of the match. Gets the penalty and scores and movement for rooney’s first was great.”

United coach and former defender Phil Neville (@fizzer18) praises the Old Trafford faithful: “Man utd fans unbelievable #thanku”

United defender Phil Jones (@PhilJones4) hails the win and praises Mata for getting his first goal for the club: “Good three points at home today and congratulations to @juanmata8 for his first @ManUtd goal!!!”

And finally, Red Devils goalkeeper David De Gea (@D_DeGea) praises his club and international team-mate: “The first of many goals you are going to score with this @juanmata8 shirt. Congrats mate. #MUFC”
