Chelsea became the first Premier League club to book their place in the Champions League quarter-final draw after a 2-0 victory over Galatasaray.

Veteran striker Samuel Eto’o broke the deadlock in the fourth minute at Stamford Bridge before Blues centre-half Gary Cahill sealed a 3-1 aggregate win for Jose Mourinho’s men.

With the Blues easing into the next round, here is a selection of the best Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to the west London side’s triumph.

Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson ‏(@77thomo) gives Twitter his tip for the second leg at Stamford Bridge: “I fancy Chelsea to win 2-0 here!”

Chelsea supporter and DJ Trevor Nelson ‏(@DJTrevorNelson) celebrates the opener in west London: “Samuel Eto’o Goooooooooal”

Former Liverpool and current Ajax forward Ryan Babel ‏(@RyanBabel) is hoping it won’t be one-way traffic after the early goal: “This goal was to quick man… hope it doesn’t affect the game.. #ChelseaGala”

Ex-Nottingham Forest star Jan Aage Fjortoft ‏(@JanAageFjortoft) reckons the media were bigging up the wrong African: “All about Drogba before the game. All about Eto’o after 4mins. #viasatfotball”

Former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot ‏(@MarioMelchiot ) enjoys Drogba’s own unintentional tribute to himself: “Drogba’s hits himself with his free-kick, hits his own banner on the Matthew Harding Stand! #mmlove #CFCLive #ChampionsLeague”

Chelsea youngster Nathaniel Chalobah (‏@chalobah) is pleased to Cahill cement the win: “Get in @GaryJCahill 2-0.”

Ex-Blues centre-half Michael Duberry (@Original_Dubes) is similarly ecstatic: “Goal!! Cahill great goal @chelseafc”

Arsenal legend Lee Dixon (‏@LeeDixon2) would have liked Galatasaray to show some fighting spirit: “Galatasaray are pants”

Former Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris (‏@morriskid) is disappointed with former Inter Milan and Real Madrid star Wesley Sneijder: “Sneijder has been so poor.”

Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam ‏(@Charlie26Adam) heaps praise on Chelsea’s star Eden Hazard: “Hazard is up there with the best in the world. #baller”

Former Norwich striker Darren Huckerby ‏(@hucks6dh6 ) poses an interesting question: “If Jose was England manager, could we win the World Cup ? #DebateTheGreats”

Ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann ‏(@DietmarHamann) believes Chelsea are too reliant on Eden Hazard to win the Champions League: “Chelsea turn into Hazard FC . Can’t see them winning CL. At least England got a team in the last eight.”
