Daniel Sturridge’s late goal earned England a 1-0 friendly victory over Denmark in Wednesday’s friendly at Wembley.

The Liverpool striker headed in Adam Lallana’s cross for his 12th goal in as many games to give England a first win in three attempts.

The Three Lions’ victory prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – and here are our favourite updates, in chronological order.

Swansea’s Wayne Routledge (@WayneRoutledge) is the first to heap praise on Lallana following his assist for Sturridge’s goal: “Adam Lallana so gifted with a football.. It’s a joy to watch”

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) adds to the praise: “Adam….added that bit of flair we were missing tonight when he came on….”

And ex-Liverpool forward Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) echoes Ferdinand’s thoughts: “What a delivery from Lallana. Superb weight of cross into a clever area! Has to be involved for England at the World Cup.”

Former Hull City man Jimmy Bullard (@1JimmyBullard) praises the in-form Liverpool forward: “Sturridge in such good nick! What a player!”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright (@IanWright0) gives his take on Roy Hodgson’s defensive options: “I believe with the centre halves on show and in the squad, Michael Dawson should get a go !”

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere (@JackWilshere) thanks the fans for their support: “Good win tonight! Thanks to all the fans who made it to Wembley was a good atmosphere! #ENG”

Boxer George Groves (@StGeorgeGroves), who will take on Carl Froch at Wembley in May, was in the house: “Guess where I was tonight soaking up the atmosphere?? #TeamSaintGG #Wembley #Mandated”

Match-winner Daniel Sturridge (@D_Sturridge) tweets his delight after the final whistle: “Great team win. Always a pleasure to play for England. I’m humbled by all that God blesses me with.”

And finally, England defender Glen Johnson (@glen_johnson) adds his thoughts: “Good win tonight and so proud to have finally got to 50 caps been stuck on 49 for ages….. #Buzzin”
