Jose Mourinho has played down the significance of his unbeaten record against Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side.

The Blues manager has emerged victorious on five occassions and drawn five games in 10 meetings with the Gunners during the Portuguese’s two spells with the west London side.

It isn’t me against him. Records don’t play any role on that. A match is match. It isn’t coach against coach. It is team against team

Arsenal, who have won three games against the Premier League’s top seven this season, can move to within a single point of leaders Chelsea with victory at Stamford Bridge.

“It doesn’t matter. It isn’t against him. It is Chelsea against Arsenal,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference.

“I didn’t even play with Real Madrid, Inter Milan or Porto. It is Chelsea against Arsenal.

Mourinho famously branded Wenger a “specialist in failure” earlier this season.

The Chelsea manager was responding Wenger’s claims that the west London side were afraid of calling themselves title favourites in case they missed out on the top-flight crown.

Asked if he regretted his comments about the 64-year-old Arsenal manager, who is set to take charge of his 1,000th Arsenal game on Saturday, Mourinho replied: “If you ask him if he regrets the comments he made, I would answer you.”

When prompted to pay tribute to Wenger’s feat, Mourinho added: “The tribute is to say that any one of us would love to have the same privilege with our clubs.”
