Juan Mata has admitted that he would much prefer to be deployed as a No10 for Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has been played primarily on the wings for United since his club-record £37.1m move to Old Trafford back in January.

To be honest I don’t see myself as a proper winger

And the Spain international is keen to get some more playing time in his preferred position before the season is out.

“I love to play between the lines,” said Mata. “Right now I am playing on the right but to be honest I don’t see myself as a proper winger. I like to play between the lines as a No10.

“[When I] come inside, that is where I feel comfortable to play, to keep in touch with the ball because I love to play in possession and with the ball.”

Mata also revealed that the expectation levels at United are high following his transfer from Chelsea.

“They expect you to win every game but it is good to have that pressure because that means you are playing at the highest level,” he added.
