Manchester United put their recent disappointments behind them by booking their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals thanks to a 3-0 win over Olympiacos.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Robin van Persie scored a penalty in the 25th minute before finishing a sweeping move just before half-time to make it 2-2 on aggregate.

The Netherlands striker then fired in a free-kick in the 51st minute at Old Trafford to complete his hat-trick and wrap up a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Wednesday’s clash prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – and here are our favourite updates, in chronological order.
