The 33-year-old Liverpool captain has won every major trophy in his club career except the Reds’s Holy Grail, the Premier League title.
The feeling for Steven Gerrard is now is his time and quite right because it may never happen again.
Liverpool moved to within a point of leaders Chelsea after their talismanic captain scored a free-kick in a nervy 2-1 win against Sunderland on Wednesday.
And Nicholas reckons Gerrard will know that he might not get a better chance to finally be crowned a Premier League champion.
“I’d love to see Liverpool win and particularly Steven Gerrard. He has earned the right to be a true champion because he has been a true champion footballer,” Nicholas said on Sky Sports News.
“And as a person, too. I’ve never met the man but I love what he is all about. He can taste it.
“The difference is this guy has won the big trophies but he has never won this one.
“He might feel this is his last chance of getting this title so he is breathing fire.
“You can see him against Sunderland and Ki the other night. Ki came on and did really well and you could see Gerrard wanted to challenge him but he couldn’t because he has this yellow card hanging over him.
“He is thinking I don’t want to get suspended because this could be my moment. This is a guy who lifted the Champions League. This is still his big moment.
“This greatness he has always had is still there. It is the other players who will feel the heat of his desire.”
He added: “The feeling for Steven Gerrard is now is his time and quite right because it may never happen again.”
