‘Liverpool must exploit Man United’s brittle confidence’
Liverpool legend Jan Molby wants the Reds to make a quick start against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday
Jan Molby has called on Liverpool to exploit Manchester United’s brittle confidence in the opening 10 minutes of Sunday’s clash.
The Reds travel to Old Trafford looking to secure their first victory at United’s famous stadium since a memorable 4-1 victory in 2009.
Liverpool have beaten Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur by big margins this season, and Molby wants the Reds to replicate those performances.
“The first 10 minutes at Old Trafford on Sunday are going to be so important,” Molby wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“Liverpool don’t need to score but they need to put the home side on the back foot.
“United will have seen how Liverpool dismantled the likes of Spurs, Everton and Arsenal and will have had nightmares about something similar happening to them.
“The Reds need to give them a taste of that early on because we know United’s confidence is brittle.
“Liverpool just need to produce what they have been producing all season.
“Selection wise, it wouldn’t surprise me if Brendan Rodgers kept faith with the same XI who started at Southampton.
“That would mean Joe Allen starting at the expense of Raheem Sterling.
“We weren’t at our best that day but the diamond in midfield allowed us to stay in the game and our energy allowed us to pull clear in the final half hour.
“If Liverpool go to Old Trafford and get their pressing game and their counter-attacking right United won’t be able to cope.”
