Jamie Redknapp has written off Manchester United’s chances of reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League after being handed a tie against Bayern Munich in the last-eight draw.

Pep Guardiola’s men are the defending champions and brushed aside United’s Premier League rivals Arsenal thanks to a 3-1 aggregate victory in the Champions League last 16.

United overturned a two-goal deficit courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Olympiacos on Wednesday night, but Redknapp can’t see the English champions causing an upset.

“It’s the worst draw possible. They are an incredible side. The football they play and they have the belief that they can beat anybody after winning last year,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

“I always think back to last year when they beat Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate. It was an incredible night of football and it showed the ability they had.

“David Moyes will have been watching the draw and be disappointed with that. It is the toughest draw that you could wish to have.”

Moyes has endured a miserable first season in charge of United, culminating in a humiliating 3-0 loss to bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford last Sunday.

Although Redknapp can’t see United beating Bayern, the former Liverpool midfielder feels the Premier League’s seventh-placed side will be under less pressure than Bayern.

“Are they beatable? Of course, anyone is beatable. But at the moment are Manchester United capable of doing that? I don’t see that happening,” he added.

“To play against this side, especially second leg away from home, it makes it more difficult. Arsenal have proven that you can go there and get results.

“Even last year, they just look a better side this year. Pep Guardiola has taken them to another level.

“Listen, they’ve got nothing to lose. All the expectations are on Bayern.”
