David Moyes admits that he will be looking to strengthen Manchester United’s midfield options in the summer transfer window – and insists the Red Devils have the spending power to compete with the top clubs.

Much was made of Moyes’ failure to bring in adequate reinforcements last summer before the club-record signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea in January.

I think this club has got a lot of spending power

And Moyes, whose United side host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, accepts that United’s midfield is in need of some fresh faces.

“I think it is an area I was made aware of that we would try to add to if we could do,” said Moyes.

“But I actually think some of the players who’ve played there have done a good job and done what they can.

“I think this club has got a lot of spending power, too. I think they’ve got that.

“I’ve not been told at any time that we don’t have that and I do think that the club will compete.”
