Mesut Ozil explains his below-par display for Arsenal at Bayern Munich
Arsenal's Mesut Özil takes to Facebook to explain his disappointing performance against Bayern Munich on Tuesday
Mesut Ozil has revealed that he suffered a hamstring injury in the second minute of Arsenal’s Champions League last-16 second leg at Bayern Munich.
The Germany international was substituted at half-time during the European clash on Tuesday as a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Arena condemned the Gunners to a 3-1 aggregate loss.
I tried to give my best and played until the end of the first half
And the 25-year-old took to his Facebook page on Thursday to provide an update about his injury situation.
Ozil wrote: “Dear friends, now it’s clear: during the #ucl match against #FCBayern I suffered a muscle injury in the second minute.
“I tried to give my best and played until the end of the first half. Rest assured that I’ll be back even stronger!”
Speaking after the game on Tuesday night, Arsene Wenger said that Ozil is likely to be sidelined for a few weeks due to the injury.
“Mesut has a hamstring problem,” Wenger said. “It looks quite serious. I don’t know how long he will be out for.
“We have to have a scan tomorrow to see how bad it is. For sure he’s out for at least a few weeks. I hope it’s not too bad.”
