Newcastle 0 Everton 3: Roberto Martinez reflects on a "complete" performance after dominant win
Roberto Martinez reflected on a “complete” performance after his Everton side boosted their hopes of a top-four finish with an impressive victory at Newcastle United.
Ross Barkley gave the Toffees the lead with a brilliant solo effort in the 22nd minute at St James’ Park, before Romelu Lukaku finished from close range just after half-time.
Leon Osman then wrapped up Everton’s best away win of the season when he smashed home Lukaku’s lay-off three minutes from full time.
I thought the understanding of what was needed today was very good

The win left Everton fifth in the Premier League table and just six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.
“I thought the performance was complete, in terms of working hard for each other,” Martinez told Sky Sports.
“We were a real threat on the counter-attack and controlled the game for long spells. As an away performance it was as good as it can get.
“It was perfect timing, I thought the understanding of what was needed today was very good.”
Martinez also reserved special praise for Barkley after a stunning display from the 20-year-old.
“He was a joy to watch,” he continued. “The way he worked for the team, the awareness that he had, the link-ups. It was a real brave performance away from home.”
