Sergio Aguero will not be fit for Manchester City’s clash with Manchester United on Tuesday night, Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed.

The Argentina international has not featured for the Citizens since suffering a hamstring injury during the 2-1 defeat at Barcelona earlier this month and will miss the game along with defender Matija Nastasic, who has a knee problem.

Pellegrini is hopeful that Aguero could return in time for Saturday evening’s trip to Arsenal.

“Maybe [this] week Sergio will start working with the squad, but I don’t think that he will be able to train for the whole week,” said Pellegrini.

“I think it’s more likely that maybe towards the end of the week he can be with the squad and start training.

“It is possible he could be available for next weekend but we will have to wait and see. Jovetic is in the squad list for tomorrow. Nastasic continues with some pain in his knee, he has at least a couple more weeks to recover.”

Pellegrini’s side head into Tuesday’s clash looking to take another step towards winning the Premier League title – and the Chilean has warned his players to expect a testing clash against the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

“United have had a difficult season, but they’re a very good team,” said Pellegrini.

“We’re sure we must have a very good game if we want to win. The players are very motivated to try and win the title.

“Our target is to add three points, but we don’t just need to win tomorrow, but the next games and until the end of the season.”
