“Younes had a fitness test before Arsenal and did well, he got through it,” said Sherwood, whose side lost the first leg of their last-16 tie 3-1.
“This game has come too soon. Fingers crossed he’ll be ready for Southampton on Sunday.”
Sherwood also confirmed that Emmanuel Adebayor (hamstring, heel), Paulinho (calf), Kyle Walker (pelvis), Mousa Dembele (hamstring), Etienne Capoue (ankle) and Erik Lamela (back) also remain out.
Meanwhile, defender Jan Vertonghen is suspended after picking up a second yellow card in the first leg, while Vlad Chiriches and Michael Dawson are still out injured.
“We are struggling,” Sherwood continued. “We have a lot of injuries, unfortunately.
“Jan Vertonghen is obviously suspended so, in the centre-back area, we need to conjure up something.”
