Christian Eriksen heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur for their battling spirit after they came from two goals down to beat Southampton.

The Saints impressed in the first half at White Hart Lane, with Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.

But Christian Eriksen netted twice from close range in the second half to make it 2-2, before substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson’s dramatic late winner.

“We were way better in the second half than the first half,” Eriksen told Sky Sports.

“We ran after the ball the whole first half. We got a little speech [from Tim Sherwood] at half-time and in the second half we were new guys.

“We try to play like the manager wants. We showed that way more in the second half than the first half.”

The win moved Spurs up to fifth place in the Premier League table – and Sigurdsson was quick to praise the north Londoners’ spirit.

“There’s a lot of character in the team and I think we showed it in the second half with the way we bounced back,” said Sigurdsson.
