Aaron Ramsey is due to return to full Arsenal training next week following a lengthy lay-off with a thigh injury, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The Wales international has not featured for the Gunners since suffering the problem on Boxing Day but is edging closer to a return to fitness.

Jack Wilshere needs more time. I don’t know exactly how long

“Ramsey is the first who will be back, certainly,” said Wenger ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City.

“With [Nacho] Monreal, he’ll be joining in with normal training next week. It’s planned for Thursday but let’s be cautious.

“I don’t know [when Ramsey will be back playing], we’ll have to see. It’s a muscular problem.”

Wenger also admitted that Jack Wilshere is not close to a return to action as the midfielder continues his recovery from a fractured bone in his foot.

“Jack Wilshere needs more time,” said Wenger. “I don’t know exactly how long. He works very hard on his rehab but it’s fractured bone and you cannot accelerate that process.

“[He will be back] for the World Cup certainly.”
