Arsene Wenger has revealed that Abou Diaby is available for selection for Arsenal after his lengthy lay-off due to injury.

The France international has not featured for the north London side since March 2013 due to an ankle ligament injury but completed 45 minutes of action as the Arsenal Under-21s were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

And the Arsenal manager revealed that the 27-year-old could be set to make his first-team return before the season is out.

“He is back in full training now and available to play,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.

“Yes, of course [he could play for the first team this season], it depends how well he comes out of the game.

“He hasn’t played for a year but physically he is ready to play, completely. It is now just decision-making, getting used to challenges again. He needs a game.

“Everybody [counted him out] but he is fit and ready.”
