Barton, Harper & more: Twitter reacts after Norwich sack Hughton

Joey Barton and Steve Harper both tweet their thoughts after Norwich City sack manager Chris Hughton

Norwich City have sacked their manager Chris Hughton and appointed youth coach Neil Adams in his place.

The former Republic of Ireland international was issued with his marching orders on Sunday after the Canaries suffered a 1-0 loss to relegation rivals West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Twitter was left in shock after Hughton’s dismissal was announced, and here is the best of the reaction from the football community on the social media site.

Former Norwich City star Iwan Roberts (‏@iwanwroberts) wishes the new man luck: “Just when you think football couldn’t surprise you anymore.5 games left all the best Neil Adams.”

Leeds United captain Ross McCormack (‏@Rossmccormack44) questions the timing of the decision: “Not the time to sack a manager. I thought he had done quite well at Norwich.”

Norwich legend Darren Huckerby (‏@hucks6dh6) is shocked by the decision: “Didn’t see that coming! #Ncfc”

QPR midfielder Joey Barton (‏@Joey7Barton) was backing Arsene Wenger to get the chop: “5 games to go? Slightly baffled… If a manager was getting bulleted today, I was sure he would have been certain Frenchman!”

Hull goalkeeper Stephen Harper (‏@steveharper37) defends his former boss: “Gutted to hear Chris Hughton has lost his job. He was fantastic for us at Newcastle. Sad for football that people like that lose their job!!”

England legend Gary Lineker (‏@GaryLineker) can’t understand the decision: “Chris Hughton has been sacked by Norwich. Now? With 5 games to go? Utterly bonkers!”

Ex-Norwich winger Darren Eadie (‏@eadie11) defends the under-fire board: “Brave decision by #NCFC board, but that’s what they are for. We were in free fall and a change no matter who CAN (we hope) break that. #OTBC”

Finally, former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair (‏@FrankMSinclair) thought the news was a joke: “So picked my control up turned onto SSN to see Houghton sacked, I thought April fools was 5 days ago, Neil Adams 5 games to go? #Madness”
