Bayern Munich

Manuel Neuer Will be thanking his lucky stars that Bale drove his shot high over the Bayern crossbar when Neuer was inexplicably wild off his line. Nearly let Di María in when he fumbled a routine cross in the 21st minute. Another atrocious clearance gave Ronaldo a chance which he lobbed inches wide. Could do little about Madrid’s four goals. 6/10

Philipp Lahm In his more traditional position at right-back, he couldn’t find his way into the game at any stage and the attacking capabilities of Coentrão and Di María were a real problem for him. 6

David Alaba Forced Pepe to head behind in the 41st minute with the first action of real intent from his team. Brought another good clearance from Ramos in the 53rd minute. Prevented Ronaldo from scoring with his head in the 70th minute. 7

Bastian Schweinsteiger Kept running all night but cut a forlorn figure as his team were disgraced.7

Jerome Boateng Good header away when Ronaldo had golden opportunity to make it 4-0 with his head. His night was torturous other than that. 6

Dante Got a yellow for a wild lunge on Ronaldo in the 17th minute. Switched off and was caught ball-watching when Ramos got free for the Spaniard’s second headed goal. 6

Arjen Robben Started applying the pressure and urging his troops forward around the half-hour mark. His curling shot in the 57th minute nearly offered some reprieve. 7

Toni Kroos Hid in the shadows when things weren’t going well for the Bavarians. Other than a shot in the 63rd minute he was very poor. Struck another shot over in the 78th minute and looked to be improving as Gotze came on. 6

Mario Mandzukic Seemed to be involved in all the physical goings on off the ball when Bayern fell behind in the first half and was duly subbed for Martinez at the break as his career looks very much in doubt at the club. 5

Thomas Mueller Was caught in no man’s land and allowed Ramos to get his first goal of the night. Became the spearhead for Bayern when Mandzukic made way. After a good run forced a corner in the 61st minute. 6

Franck Ribery Out of sorts in recent weeks. However, he was the first offer something for the Bavarians. Shot just wide from a tight angle in the 25th minute. Great run and shot that nearly passed Casillas on the hour. 6

Substitutes

Javi Martinez Amazingly took the field for Bayern’s only out-and-out centre-forward Mandzukic at half-time. Showed some much needed heart and determination when he dispossessed Bale. 6

Mario Gotze Replaced the frustrated Ribery in the 72nd minute. Produced a great turn and skill to nearly score in the 76th minute. 6

Claudio Pizarro Out-of-contract at the end of the season. He came on for Muller in what was a last ditch substitution with 18 minutes left. N/A

Real Madrid

Iker Casillas Showed Neuer in the opposition goal what an accomplished display from a seasoned veteran looks like. Became the Real Madrid player with the most wins in the history of the club. 7

Daniel Carvajal Playing with a confidence beyond his years. Comfortable and never looked like being beaten by the two greats of Robben and Lahm in opposition. 8

Fábio Coentrão Handled Robben well, always concentrating and never just dived in. Could have scored in the 64th minute when he made Neuer produce his best. 8

Luka Modric Supplied the corner for Ramos’s goal. Thrived once more in the less attractive defensive areas. However, he still supplied some great passes evidenced by his fantastic pass to Ronaldo in the 32nd minute. 8

Sergio Ramos Only had five in 72 Champions League games before tonight but scored twice here. First from a great header in the 16th minute, a powerful effort where he rose high unchallenged from a corner and finished giving the goalkeeper no chance. His second came when he found himself free in the box again and scored with his head. 9

Pepe Dispossessed Mandzukic early on when he had a great chance. Did his best to arouse aggression in the opposition at every turn. Got the flick on from the free-kick after 20 minutes for Ramos’s second goal. May resemble a loose-cannon from time to time but he was great in Munich. 9

Angel Di María Provided a great pass that set up the fabulous counter-attacking goal from Ronaldo after the half-hour. 8

Xabi Alonso Will miss the final after a terrible lunge on Schweinsteiger. Played on gamely for his team. 8

Cristiano Ronaldo (Man of the match) Became the first person to score 16 goals in the competition when he finished coolly in the 34th minute and hit a free-kick deliberately under the wall in the final minutes. 9

Karim Benzema Perfect ball to set up Bale up done the same for Ronaldo’s goal in the 34th minute. 7

Gareth Bale Had a chance with Neuer off his line in the ninth minute but blazed over. Made up for this with a precise assist to Ronaldo for his goal minutes later. 8

Substitutes

Raphael Varane The young French centre-half replaced the tremendous Ramos in the 75th minute. 6

Isco The only excemption from the earlier leg came on for Benzema in the last ten minutes. 6

Casemiro Came on for Di Maria in the 84th minute. N/A
