Fabio Borini revealed that he received an avalanche of tweets from Liverpool fans ahead of Sunderland’s clash with Chelsea on Saturday asking for a “favour” from his team.

The Italian striker, who is on loan to Sunderland from Liverpool, struck the winning penalty as the Black Cats stunned Jose Mourinho’s side to secure victory at Stamford Bridge.

The result gives Liverpool the chance to move five points clear of second-placed Chelsea when they travel to Norwich City on Sunday.

And Borini told Sky Sports: “It [the penalty] was very important for the game. We showed that we have great character and great belief.

“[I’ve heard from] the Liverpool fans more than the players, who are obviously doing their job.

“I’ve had lots of tweets from Liverpool fans asking for a favour. But it’s more for Sunderland.”

Sunderland remain bottom of the Premier League and three points from safety with four games left to play.
