Brendan Rodgers: Sergio Aguero will find Liverpool clash ‘difficult’

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reckons Sergio Agüero will find the Anfield clash "difficult" on Sunday

Brendan Rodgers believes Sergio Aguero will find it difficult when the Manchester City striker makes his return to action at Anfield on Sunday.

The Argentina international has been nursing a hamstring injury which he picked up in a 2-1 loss to Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash at Camp Nou in March.

It will obviously be difficult for him because he hasn’t played many games at all

The 25-year-old, who missed the Citizens’s 2-1 win against Liverpool at The Etihad in December, has scored 15 goals in 17 Premier League appearances during an injury-hit campaign.

Liverpool manager Rodgers is an admirer of the former Atletico Madrid man but reckons Aguero could be fearful of aggravating the niggling problem despite Manuel Pellegrini declaring his star striker is fit.

“Absolutely [Aguero’s return adds to the spectacle],” Rodgers said.

“It will obviously be difficult for him because he hasn’t played many games at all.

“Coming into such a game as this here, I think the players at this stage will be thinking about the World Cup.

“If he gets another injury or gets another problem, it sets him back again.

“If he is fit, it is great for the supporters and people because he is clearly a fantastic player.

“He is someone who has shown great quality, and off the field, he has shown great humility.

“He looks a really good guy and carries himself really well.

“On the pitch, he carries himself really well.”
