Peter Whittingham felt that Cardiff could have sealed a vital victory after coming from behind to earn a draw against Stoke.

Marko Arnautovic’s penalty gave the Potters the lead in Wales just before half-time following Kim Bo-Kyung’s foul on Peter Odemwingie.

It is not ideal but we didn’t lose and we have two away games that will be huge for us

But Whittingham hauled the home side level from the penalty spot shortly after the break following Steven Nzonzi’s trip on Fraizer Campbell.

Juan Cala had a goal ruled out for offside as Cardiff were forced to settle for a point, which leaves them 18th in the table with three games left to play.

“We felt we controlled the game,” Whittingham told BBC Sport.

“A few nice chances we should have put away, on the balance of play we deserved a bit more but a point is a point.

“It is not ideal but we didn’t lose and we have two away games that will be huge for us.”
