Chelsea

Petr Cech Never really called into action in what was a welcome clean sheet for Jose Mourinho’s side. 5

Branislav Ivanovic Impressed at both ends of the pitch but should have scored with a header from yards out early on. 6

Gary Cahill Another solid performance. Made two key blocks and tracked back well on the rare occasions that Stoke mustered up a counter attack. 6

John Terry Responded well after last weekend’s own goal and kept a cool head in a dominant display with Cahill. 5

Cesar Azpilicueta Reliable as ever, made it tough for the Stoke players to get past him and burst up the park several times to give his team another dimension. 6

Frank Lampard Started off slowly but got into the game, and had chances to double his side’s lead before tapping in the rebound from his penalty. 5

Nemanja Matic Energetic performance from the Serbian, including an assist for Salah after fine play on the left flank before cutting in and finding his team-mate. 5

Andre Schurrle Not as influential as usual but showed glimpses of what he is about with good link-up play and nifty footwork. 5

Willian Came close with a curling effort in the first half before finding the back of the net with a fine strike after the break to cap off his performance. 6

Mohamed Salah (Man of the match) Great strike to break the deadlock on his full debut before winning Chelsea’s penalty after neat dribbling in the danger area. 7

Fernando Torres Looked hungry and was unlucky not to score after seeing a first-half shot go just wide before forcing a brilliant save from Begovic. 6

Substitutes

Eden Hazard Introduced after the interval and made an immediate impact by linking up well with Salah, who won a penalty. 6

David Luiz Looked as comfortable as ever on the ball. 5

Ashley Cole Solid after coming on in what will be an important few weeks for the defender with World Cup places up for grabs. 5

Stoke

Asmir Begovic Pulled off several smart stops including a point-blank stop from Torres, but was unlucky to concede a second after his penalty stop fell straight into the path of the oncoming Lampard. 6

Geoff Cameron Did little to prevent the onslaught on Stoke’s goal and seemed to struggle with the pace of the match. 4

Ryan Shawcross Took no risks but was simply outrun by the hosts attacking prowess in and around the box. 5

Marc Wilson Made a couple of vital interceptions but went missing for large parts of the match. 5

Erik Pieters Poor performance from the Dutch international. Almost cost his side a goal with a careless backpass and should have been tighter to Salah for the first goal. 4

Peter Odemwingie Could have been stronger in build-up to Chelsea’s opening goal but had a fine strike just off target in the second half as he looked to make things happen. 5

Glenn Whelan Made his presence known at times as he spread the ball from the middle but did not see enough of it to have a big enough impact. 5

Wilson Palacios Lacklustre performance from the Honduran – replaced at half time after little impact. 4

Steven Nzonzi Gave his all and made a couple neat passes including a great ball to play Arnautovic through. 6

Marko Arnautovic Got into several promising positions and had his team’s best chance of the match but could not get the ball under control. 5

Peter Crouch Barely touched the ball on what was a frustrating evening for the Stoke attackers. 4

Substitutes

Andy Wilkinson Brought on at half time but did little to help the cause following a rash challenge to gift Chelsea a penalty from which they scored. 4

Charlie Adam Gave Mark Hughes’ men some much-needed quality and composure in the middle of the park. 6

Jonathan Walters Not enough time to get into the match. 5
