Diego Simeone admits that he would not be surprised if Chelsea try and sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a big-money swoop for the 25-year-old striker, with some reports claiming that the west London club have already all but sealed a £50m deal for the forward.

And Simeone did little to cool the speculation about Costa’s future on the eve of his side’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Jose Mourinho’s men.

Simeone said: “It would not surprise me at all if a club that is economically powerful, as Chelsea are, would try to sign Costa.

“Why? Because he is different, a very good player.”

Costa has scored 26 goals and made three assists in 31 La Liga games for Atletico Madrid this season.
