Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho not in contact with Thibaut Courtois
Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho reveals he isn't in "direct contact" with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois
Jose Mourinho reveals he has not plans to hold talks with Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old Belgium international has continued his impressive form during his third successive season-long loan at Atletico Madrid.
I didn’t have any direct contact with him and I don’t want to have
Los Rojablancos have been linked with a permanent move for Courtois, who has won the Copa del Rey and Europa League at Vicente Calderon.
The former Genk man, who moved to Chelsea in a £7m deal in 2011, revealed he would make a decision on his future in the coming weeks.
However, Chelsea manager Mourinho is calm on the issue of Courtois’s future and won’t enter into discussions with the shot stopper as long as Atletico could be potential opponents in the Champions League.
“No. I didn’t have any direct contact with him and I don’t want to have,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference.
“There is still a possibility of Chelsea to find Atletico in the later stage of the Champions League. I don’t like to have contact with a player in that situation.”
After his match-saving display in a 1-1 draw with Barcelona in the first leg of Atletico’s Champions League quarter-final, Courtois confirmed there will be “official news” next week as to whether he will return to Chelsea.
“Next week it will become clear where I’m playing next season,” Courtois told Sporza.
“It’s certain that it will be Chelsea or Atletico and no other club. I can’t say much more about it but, in the next weeks, there will be official news.”
