‘Chelsea’s result in Madrid will dictate team for Liverpool clash’
David Seaman believes the strength of the Chelsea side to face Liverpool will depend on their result at Atletico Madrid
David Seaman believes Chelsea’s result at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League will dictate the type of side that Jose Mourinho fields against Liverpool next Sunday.
The Blues take on Diego Simeone’s side, who are top of La Liga, at the Vicente Calderon in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.
The result on Tuesday night will dictate more or less what kind of side he puts out against Liverpool
Chelsea’s hopes of winning the Premier League title suffered a blow this weekend after a shock 2-1 loss to 20th-placed Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues trail Liverpool by five points ahead of their trip to Merseyside, and Arsenal legend Seaman reckons Mourinho could prioritise the Champions League if Chelsea secure a positive result in the Spanish capital.
“It will depend on the result on Tuesday night. You want to win everything so it is hard to prioritise, especially when it is the Champions League and the Premier League,” Seaman told Sky Sports.
“I think the result on Tuesday night will dictate more or less what kind of side he puts out against Liverpool.”
He added: “If they get a good result, he might start prioritising the Champions League. Maybe he might start thinking about getting to the final of the Champions League.”
