David De Gea has insisted that Manchester United want to qualify for a European club competition.

The Red Devils are currently 10 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal with four Premier League games remaining.

We want to finish as high as we can in the league, [to] ensure we’re playing in a European competition next season

United are nine points adrift of the Europa League spot, too, as the defending English champions contemplate the prospect of a season without European football.

Everton can move above Arsenal if Roberto Martinez’s men win their game in hand, with the Toffees set to face United at Goodison Park on Sunday.

And Red Devils goalkeeper De Gea is confident that United can still qualify for Europe if David Moyes’s side win their remaining games.

“There are still plenty of important games to play,” De Gea said.

“We are Manchester United and it’s our duty to win every game we take part in.

“That’s what we’ll try to do now because we want to finish as high as we can in the league [to] ensure we’re playing in a European competition next season and show we are still around and that we will never give in.”
