Fantasy Football: Coutinho, Dzeko & more – This weekend’s best picks
Fantasy Football: The Sport Review tips the best transfers to make ahead of a busy weekend of Premier League action
John Ruddy (£5.1m) The Norwich City goalkeeper has plenty to prove with a spot on England’s plane to the World Cup in Brazil this summer up for grabs. The Canaries goalkeeper is the best performing shot stopper outside of the clubs in the top five, with 116 points. Norwich face West Bromwich and Fulham in their next two games, which represent an opportunity for clean-sheet bonus points.
Jon Flanagan (£4.4m) The Liverpool full-back continues to impress in a Red shirt, profiting from Jose Enrique’s long-term injury. Jon Flanagan earned 12 points thanks to an assist and clean-sheet bonus point in Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. The England Under-21 international is worth adding to your side at an economical £4.4m.
Martin Olsson (£4.2m) Martin Olsson is a favourite of this columnist. If you haven’t added him to your defence already, you should. The Canaries defender is excellent value at £4.2m. He, and Norwich, will hope to profit against low-scoring West Brom and Fulham in the next week or so. Furthermore, the Swedish defender provides a threat bombing forward from full-back.
Kevin Nolan (£7.1m) How Kevin Nolan is classed as a midfielder is beyond this columnist! He may be a midfielder by name but he plays in that No10 role for West Ham. The Hammers captain has been reunited with his best chum Carroll and will be looking to get on any scraps that the giant striker can provide. Let’s not forget that he is on penalty duty, too!
Phillipe Coutinho (£8.5m) Surprisingly Philippe Coutinho is only in 4.3 per cent of Fantasy Football teams. Admittedly Coutinho has struggled to produce his best form but the Brazilian has turned a corner in recent weeks. The former Inter Milan scored in a 4-0 win against Spurs last weekend, and he has earned 19 points in his last three games. Coutinho has a big part to play for Liverpool – and your side! – between now and the end of the season.
Andy Carroll (£7.1m) The 25-year-old is sure to be up for the clash against his former Liverpool on Sunday. The England international has been in good form for the Hammers, earning 26 points from his last top-flight games. Remember, it isn’t only goals that Carroll will provide to your side, he is a big assist getter, too.
Edin Dzeko (£6.9m) How does Edin Dzeko command a fee of just £6.9m? The Bosnian has scored 10 Premier League goals this season, including three in his last three top-flight outings. With Sergio Aguero still absent with injury, the Citizens striker will aim to fill his boots against Southampton on Saturday and earn a starting spot for the crunch top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool next weekend.
While Luis Suarez remains a solid shout, Liverpool could struggle at Upton Park on Sunday. As a result, Manchester City strikers or attacking midfielders could be the way to go, or Chelsea star Eden Hazard.
