Robin van Persie could be set to return to action for Manchester United before the end of the season, Ryan Giggs has revealed.

The Dutch forward has been out injured since picking up a knee injury during the Champions League clash with Olympiacos at Old Trafford last month.

The 30-year-old had been expected to miss the rest of the season with the problem but interim boss Giggs has hinted that he could feature in one of United’s last three games.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how he goes this week,” said Giggs of Van Persie.

“He came back last Friday and he trained well. He just needs to work on his fitness now so, yeah, he looked great.”

Van Persie has scored 11 goals and made three assists in 18 Premier League appearances so far this season.

Giggs, who has been placed in temporary charge of the Red Devils following David Moyes’ sacking last week, oversaw a 4-0 win over Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

“I was nervous, but as soon as I came out of the tunnel the reception I got, the staff got and the players got was brilliant,” said Giggs.

“I’ve got to thank the fans for that because it’s not been an easy week, but I felt 10 feet tall.”
