Glen Johnson: Liverpool enjoying football again under Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool defender Glen Johnson heaps praise on Reds manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of their clash against Manchester City
Liverpool are enjoying their football again under Brendan Rodgers, according to Glen Johnson.
The 41-year-old Northern Irishman has successfully embedded his philosophy in the Liverpool squad, and the Reds are a vastly improved outfit this season.
Liverpool are two points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their clash against third-placed Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
He is a calm man. He gets his points across when he needs to, but not shouting or ranting
And Johnson lifted the lid on Rodgers’s impact at the Merseyside outfit since replacing Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish in May 2012.
“He has got the players enjoying their football again,” Johnson told the Express.
“We always play from the back; we can play our way out of almost every situation. He wants everyone to get on the ball in what some people class as dangerous positions.
“When some people wouldn’t be looking for the ball, he is teaching the young players not to be afraid.”
Johnson, who has less than 18 months remaining on his Reds contract, revealed that Rodgers rarely loses his cool and prefers a softer approach with his Liverpool players.
“He is a calm man. He gets his points across when he needs to, but not shouting or ranting. He will do it in a kinder way than just losing his top,” Johnson added.
