Ian Rush believes Liverpool can still win Premier League title

Liverpool legend Ian Rush still believes the Reds can claim the title if they win their remaining games

Ian Rush believes Liverpool can still win the Premier League title if the Reds win their remaining two games.

Brendan Rodgers’s side are no longer in control of their own destiny after a 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday.

Being back in the Champions League next season is a big thing for Liverpool but I still believe we can win the title

Ian Rush

Manchester City can move ahead of the Reds on goal difference if both sides win their remaining Premier League games.

However, former striker Rush feels optimistic that Liverpool can still end their 24-year wait to win the English top-flight title.

“Chelsea sat very deep and unfortunately we just couldn’t break them down,” Rush told Liverpool Echo.

“It was a setback but there are still two games to go. We can get to 86 points and I believe 86 points will be enough to win the league.

“Being back in the Champions League next season is a big thing for Liverpool but I still believe we can win the title.”

Rush added that Luis Suarez deserved the PFA player of the year award after scoring 30 Premier League goals this season.

“Luis deserves it,” he added.

“He was outstanding last season but he has managed to surpass that this season.

“You have to give the manager and the owners a lot of credit for keeping him at the club and Luis has repaid them with his performances. We all hope he’s here for a long time to come.”
