Jose Mourinho has declared that Mohamed Salah has the potential to be a “very exciting” signing for Chelsea.

The Egyptian scored his first Chelsea goal in the 6-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last month before netting in the 2-0 win against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge last week.

He has incredible pace and he is comfortable receiving the ball in space, like a traditional winger, so he offers us another way to beat the defence

Salah, who was regularly linked to Liverpool over the past 12 months, completed an £11m switch to the west London side from Basel in the January transfer window.

And Mourinho feels the 23-year-old will prove to be a very astute acquisition once the winger is settled in the Premier League.

“I think he has the potential to be a very exciting player,” Mourinho told Chelsea magazine.

“He has come from a different situation to most of the squad, because he was playing in Switzerland before he came here, and in Egypt before that, so he has to adapt to his surroundings here.

“He has incredible pace and he is comfortable receiving the ball in space, like a traditional winger, so he offers us another way to beat the defence.”

Salah has scored two goals and made one assist in six Premier League appearances for Chelsea.
