Liverpool

Simon Mignolet Made decent saves from Cole and Schurrle but was left with a lot to do once Ba was one on one with him. 5/10

Glen Johnson Saw a lot of the ball in advanced areas but opted for the short pass. 5

Mamadou Sakho Could have fired Liverpool into an early lead but finished like a defender. 5

Martin Skrtel Had very little to do. Less of a threat from corners than usual. 5

Jon Flanagan Had Salah in his pocket for most of the game. 6

Steven Gerrard Made the mistake that lead to Ba’s goal and didn’t really recover from it. 4

Joe Allen Passed and moved to try to probe the defence. Shot from range and caused Schwarzer a couple of problems. 6

Lucas Passed the ball well but had little impact. 5

Philippe Coutinho Hit the side netting early on but nothing else fell for him. 5

Raheem Sterling Struggled to find space in a very compact and well-drilled Chelsea defence. 6

Luis Suarez Tried to trick his way through the defence but found few holes to exploit. 5

Subsitutes

Daniel Sturridge Coming back from injury and looked a little off the pace. 5

Iago Aspas Poor set pieces. Zero impact. 5

Chelsea

Mark Schwarzer (man of the match) An experienced head with good control of his area. Made some good saves. 8

Cesar Azpilicueta Having a great season and did well to push Sterling back. 8

Branislav Ivanovic Part of a solid Chelsea back four. Great in the air. 8

Tomáš Kalas The debutant slotted in well and did not look out of place. 7

Ashley Cole Tested Mignolet from range and put in an experienced performance. 7

Frank Lampard Experienced and just sat back and defended with his head. 7

Jon Obi Mikel Careful in possession and set up counter-attacks. 7

Nemanja Matic Did well to get into advanced positions when Chelsea countered. 7

Mohamed Salah Lacked a little going forward. 6

Andre Schurrle Quick on the break but did not find himself in shooting positions often enough. 6

Demba Ba Opened the scoring and capitalised on a mistake from Steven Gerrard. Poor decision making. 6

Substitutes

Willian Brought on as an attacking outlet for when Chelsea needed to counter and scored the second. 7
