Liverpool transfers: ‘Adam Lallana would be great addition to Reds squad’
Liverpool transfers: Rob Jones believes Southampton captain Adam Lallana would be a great signing for the Reds this summer
Adam Lallana would be a great summer signing for Liverpool, according to Rob Jones.
The Reds are reportedly leading the race to sign the Saints skipper, with Manchester United also competing for the midfielder’s signature.
There are 100s of players being linked to Liverpool – but that’s good
Lallana has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated English players after scoring nine goals and making five assists in 36 appearances.
And former Liverpool defender Jones believes Lallana, who missed out on the PFA player of the year award to Reds striker Luis Suarez, would be an astute acquisition.
“I saw the Lallana story this morning and it was very exciting,” Jones told The Sport Review.
“There is a lot of speculation at the moment about the team. There are 100s of players being linked to Liverpool – but that’s good.
“It shows that players want to come to Liverpool again – and the Champions League is going to help. He would be great player to add to the squad.”
Jones, who won the FA Cup with the Reds in 1992, believes Liverpool could have an edge on struggling United in the transfer market over the next couple of seasons as the Red Devils attempt to rebuild.
“Manchester United are going through a bit of a tough period at the moment and it is up to them to get them out of it,” Jones added.
“In the past there have been players Liverpool were after and have signed for United.
“Hopefully in the next few years, the roles will have changed a bit and players will want to play for a big club like Liverpool.”
