Iago Aspas has revealed that he is keen to leave Liverpool in the summer transfer window in search of regular first-team football.

The striker has made just five Premier League starts for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season after moving to Merseyside from Celta Vigo in a £7m deal last summer.

Aspas has only scored one goal for the Reds in a total of 14 appearances this season, and the 26-year-old Spaniard has now stated his desire to quit Anfield in search of a new challenge.

“I am not 20 years old anymore,” said Aspas. “I can’t go on loan and explode.

“I think the best would be to transfer to another club and that I find the best fit for myself and the club.”

Speaking back in January, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admitted that Aspas faces a tough test in attempting to oust prolific strike duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

“In fairness to him, he hasn’t had a lot of opportunities because of the qualities of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge when he was fit.”
