Liverpool transfers: Rob Jones warns the Reds' owners that they will need to spend big in the summer
Rob Jones has warned Liverpool’s owners that they must be prepared to spend big in the summer transfer window if the Reds are to cope with the rigours of Champions League football next season.
The Merseyside club have all but secured their place in Europe’s elite club competition for next season and currently lead the Premier League heading into the final four games of the campaign.
But former Liverpool right-back Jones feels that significant reinforcements will be needed at Anfield before next season if the Reds are to compete with Europe’s top clubs.
We need the owners to put money in to build that squad up because the Champions League definitely takes it out of the team
“Everything’s going our way [but] there’s no talk at all of winning the Premier League yet, they are very focused on winning the next game,” Jones told Perform.
“I think that is the best way to be, I know it’s an exciting time for the fans and everyone is talking about it but at Melwood no-one is talking about it at all.
“Next year I think will be a lot more difficult, it looks like we’ll be in the Champions League next year, so we need a bigger squad.
“We need the owners to put money in to build that squad up because the Champions League definitely takes it out of the team and the squad.”
