Yann M’Vila was close to joining Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to Rubin Kazan manager Rinat Bilyaletdinov.

The France international was also linked with a move to Arsenal before his eventual transfer to Russia from Rennes last summer.

Maybe his agents had promised him something. He thought he was already in Liverpool

Liverpool were reported to be close to bringing the 23-year-old defensive midfielder to Anfield at the start of the year, but a move failed to materialise.

“In January M’Vila behaved badly. One day he trained, one day he didn’t,” Bilyaletdinov said, according to BBC Sport.

“Maybe his agents had promised him something. He thought he was already in Liverpool.

“I told him: ‘It is not your level. If you go, you will be on the bench’. He was very disappointed.

“Now I haven’t seen him for a while. I have been told he is in France to cure an injury.”
