Yevhen Konoplyanka has confirmed that he held “serious” talks with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers ahead of a potential transfer to Anfield.

The Dnipro winger was heavily linked with a switch to Merseyside during the January transfer window but a move failed to materialise.

The 24-year-old says he spoke with Rodgers about the prospect of a switch to the Premier League leaders during the mid-season window.

And Konoplyanka, who was also linked with Tottenham Hotspur, concedes that he is still “dreaming” of a move to Liverpool.

“Liverpool are challenging for the league in England. I’m supporting them. I want them to win it,” Konoplyanka told Ukrainian television.

“Yes, us and Rodgers talked a little bit to each other. The interest from Liverpool was very much serious.

“It was serious, but now I’m thinking of it only as a dream, because [Dnipro] are challenging for league.”
