Liverpool’s Sturridge & Suarez deserve PFA awards, says Arsenal legend
David Seaman believes Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suárez deserve to win the PFA awards this season
David Seaman believes Liverpool duo Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez deserve to scoop this season’s PFA accolades.
The Uruguay international has made the six-man shortlist to win the PFA player of the year award after scoring 30 goals in 30 Premier League games.
Suarez faces competition from his talismanic captain Steven Gerrard and team-mate Sturridge, as well as Adam Lallana, Eden Hazard and Yaya Toure.
I’m surprised any other clubs apart from Liverpool are on there
“I would go for him [Suarez]. Steven Gerrard has been fantastic. Not as sensational as Suarez. He has changed the way he plays, and done it superbly,” Seaman told Sky Sports.
His fellow guest on Goals on Sunday, Graham Stuart also backed the 27-year-old South American to win the PFA player of the year award.
“I think it is difficult to look past Suarez,” added Stuart.
“Forget all the controversy that surrounds him all the time, as a player and a finisher, he is world class.
“I’ve seen a lot of Hazard this season and he has been terrific for Chelsea, Suarez for me has to get it.”
Meanwhile, the Arsenal legend picked Sturridge to win the PFA young player of the year award ahead of Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
“I would go Sturridge. It’s a bit too late for Sterling. Ramsey has had a fantastic season and as he showed this weekend, he is back to his best,” Seaman continued.
“But you’ve got to go Sturridge. I’m surprised any other clubs apart from Liverpool are on there.”
Ross Barkley, Hazard, Luke Shaw and Raheem Sterling are the other four candidates for the young player of the year accolade.
