Man City 4 Southampton 1: Vincent Kompany ‘very focused’ in title race
Man City 4 Southampton 1: Vincent Kompany says the Citizens are "very focused" in the Premier League title race
Vincent Kompany warned Liverpool that Manchester City are “very focused” in the title race after a comfortable victory over Southampton at St Mary’s.
The Citizens had edged into a third-minute lead after Yaya Toure scored from the penalty spot following Jose Fonte’s foul on City striker Edin Dzeko.
We know there will be difficult games to come but ultimately it is all about results at the times of the season
Southampton hit back when Rickie Lambert scored a spot-kick of his own before Samir Nasri and Dzeko beat Southampton third-choice goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga before half-time.
Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo wasted chances to add to City’s cushion before substitute Stevan Jovetic added a fourth, with City moving to within a point of leaders Liverpool.
“We are just very focused,” Kompany told BT Sport.
“We know there will be difficult games to come but ultimately it is all about results at the times of the season.
“We aren’t concentrated so much on getting explosive wins. We just want to catch [Liverpool].
“We’re just very focused and we want to do the job right.”
On their clash with Liverpool next weekend, Kompany added: “It’s going to be an important week, build-up.
“Two years ago we had to play Manchester United with three games to go and it was a lot tighter than it is now.
“It is a big game but we’ve played those type of games before and we’ll just try to prepare as best we can.”
