Juan Mata believes Manchester United will travel to Bayern Munich full of confidence after their 4-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Red Devils have the chance to defy the odds and reach the Champions League semi-finals after a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the last-eight clash with Bayern last Tuesday.

This victory gives us a lot of energy for our game in Munich on Wednesday

United were comfortable winners against the Magies despite missing Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie thanks to Mata’s brace and goals from Javier Hernandez and Adnan Januzaj.

And Mata, who is cup-tied for the trip to Germany, reckons United will be “full of energy” as David Moyes’s side attempt to topple defending champions Bayern at the Allianz Arena.

“After the match I was very happy from a personal point of view and I was really pleased with the effort made by all players to win – and it’s a key victory to try to climb up the table and to go to Germany full of confidence,” Mata wrote in his blog.

He added: “This victory gives us a lot of energy for our game in Munich on Wednesday. In the first leg, the support from Old Trafford was our power to cope with such a tough game. It was a great night that I had to enjoy from the stands.

“On Wednesday I’ll be supporting from home, in front of the TV, aware that the Allianz Arena is one of the toughest stadiums in Europe… but also aware that we are Manchester United and I’m sure we can make it through!”
