Manuel Pellegrini: I wouldn’t swap Sergio Aguero for Luis Suarez
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini heaps praise on Citizens striker Sergio Agüero ahead of their trip to Anfield
Manuel Pellegrini says he wouldn’t swap Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero for the Premier League’s top goal-scorer Luis Suarez.
The South American pair are expected to play a part in the potential title decider between Liverpool and City at Anfield on Sunday.
But if you tell me I could change him [Suarez] for Sergio, I’d say no
27-year-old Suarez has scored 29 Premier League goals this season which have helped fire Liverpool to the top of the table with five games remaining.
Aguero has managed 15 top-flight strikes during an injury-hit campaign, and Pellegrini feels the Argentina international would improve any top side.
“I wouldn’t swap,” Pellegrini said. “I think a lot of Suarez. He is a great player, not only a striker.
“He scores goals but he also plays a lot for the team. But if you tell me I could change him for Sergio, I’d say no. I am absolutely sure any team who played with Sergio would be improved.
“They are both very good. Suarez has had the whole season playing. He has scored a lot of goals, whereas Sergio has had a difficult season with injuries but they are both top players.”
Aguero has scored 50 Premier League goals since swapping Atletico Madrid for City in 2011, whilst Suarez has netted 67 top-flight strikes.
